Today's senior spotlight is
Lauren Pelletier, a two-year member of the softball team from Martinsburg, West Virginia. Last season, she played in 17 games, while making 11 starts. The Clinical Psychology major excelled in the classroom as well, by being named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll and a NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete.
What are you looking forward to most about the upcoming season?
Pelletier: Finally being in season, catching pop flies, and making the most random witty quips. Feed'em up!
What is your most memorable moment at Franciscan throughout your career?
Pelletier: It was our last away game of the 2025 Spring Season, under the lights, turf field. Bench warming all year, but coach had me start 2nd base for both games. We didn't win but that night was a personal victory. And such a gift, I had recently surrendered my frustration of sitting on the bench to God, and thanked Him for softball even though I rarely played. And that night he gifted me not a few minutes, not a pinch run, but two whole games. And my captain, Kimmy McDaniels pulled me aside that night in between games as the sun had just set over the horizon and said: "I love this time of night, you know buddy? Because it looks like Mary's mantel is covering us. She's always with us." Then she clapped me on the shoulder. And I'll never forget those words she said, the color of the deepening blue sky, the fresh air, and those two whole games God gave me. Such a gift, all of it!
What are your plans after graduating from Franciscan?
Pelletier: My future is not abundantly clear, but I plan to pay off my debt, get my Masters in Counseling, and eventually become a License Practicing Counselor.
Who has made the biggest impact on your life?
Pelletier: My grandfather - Robert J. Nyzio
What is the best piece of advice that you can give to the incoming freshmen at Franciscan?
Pelletier: Commit with flexibility, meaning try stuff out but with intentionality. Commit to one thing for a semester or a year, you have plenty of time to switch things up later. If you can't commit you're never giving anything a fair chance, but at the same time college is a time to grow and God may call you in new directions so just be flexible enough to respond when He does.
