Women's Volleyball Sweeps Penn State Beaver in Season Opener

Franciscan women's volleyball kicked off the 2026 season with a game against Penn State Beaver at Finnegan Fieldhouse Tuesday evening. In front of a packed house, the Barons won by a score of 3-0.

How It Happened
The Barons started strong, winning the first three points. One of those points was a kill by Therese Heisler, who then recorded a kill on Franciscan's fourth point. After Penn State Beaver made it 7-4 Franciscan, the Barons won 16 of the next 18 points en route to a 25-9 set win. Julia Rook had a few set aces in the run to establish the hosts' lead.

Set two was more of the same, with the home team building a 10-2 lead. McKenna Ryan recorded multiple kills during that stretch, finishing with three. Kills by Logan Hickey and Anna Guard later in the set sealed the victory, winning the second frame by a score of 25-10.

Set three belonged to the Barons once again, with the hosts going up 13-3. Monika Peters put together a few services aces in that span, along with a couple kills from Logan Hickey. Taking advantage of a few attack errors, Franciscan's decisive last two points were kills from Logan Hickey to seal the sweep.
