LATROBE, PA - The Franciscan volleyball team dropped its first two matches of the 2016 St. Vincent Bearcat Challenge, Friday evening.

The Lady Barons opened the season with a 3-1 loss to Wooster in the first game of the tournament.

"We definitely did not play like freshman tonight against Wooster. We did not play nervous and kept pace with them," remarked head coach Kelly Herrmann. "Roz Pridemore and Maddie Raffa really played strong games for us."

FUS wrapped up day one with a 3-0 loss to Westminster later that evening.

"We came out a little flat and after struggling and losing [Maddie] early in the match, we just struggled to recover. Losing one of your stronger players can be something tough to bounce back from," commented coach Herrmann.

Though it was a tough loss, coach Herrmann had a positive outlook for the rest of the tournament and the season.

"When someone goes down, it is just another chance for someone else to step up and play and we have to keep going and that's what this team does. Tonight was a learning experience for us—it taught us a lot about ourselves and what we need to work on and learn."

"We just have to go out there and get over this and be ready to play tomorrow. Volleyball is a marathon and not a sprint. We always talk about learning as we go and no experience is a bad experience as long as you learn — and we did that tonight."

Franciscan concludes the Bearcat Challenge tomorrow with a match against Muskingum at 11am and a match against St. Vincent at 3pm.
