GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Franciscan women's soccer team wrapped up its regular season with a 4-0 loss to Pitt.-Greensburg, Tuesday afternoon.
Despite the loss, the Lady Barons clinched the No. 6 seed in the upcoming Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. Franciscan will travel to D'Youville on Saturday for the opening round game.
The Panthers jumped out to an early lead as Tiffany Michalek scored just 52 seconds into the contest. Greensburg got the benefit of an unfortunate own goal by the Lady Barons to carry a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. Camdyn Bass pushed the UPG lead to 3-0 with seven seconds left before the break with her first goal of the season.
Franciscan was held without a shot in the first half as the Panthers led in shots, 13-0, after the first 45 minutes.
Just five minute into the second half, the Panthers scored the game's final goal as McKenzie Hunterbriker scored her first of the season to give the hosts a 4-0 lead.
A corner kick from senior Elizabeth Dawyot (Landenberg, PA/Kennett) led to the Lady Barons first shot as sophomore Gracie Tillman (Lost Creek, WV/Home School) got a shot off in the corner scrum but it was blocked by the Panther defense. Freshman Annie Beckman (Ann Arbor, MI / Dexter) corralled the rebound and quickly put the ball back on net but the Greensburg keeper made a save to keep her shutout alive. Dawyot got the final Lady Baron shot off in the 57th minute as her attempt went high.
The Panthers out-shot the Lady Barons 22-3 for the contest. Senior keeper Sarah Luebking (Littleton, CO/Columbine) made eight saves in net for Franciscan.
The Lady Barons season continues on Saturday as they face D'Youville in a 3:00 pm contest in Buffalo, NY. D'Youville is the No. 3 seed in the AMCC tournament and the Spartans are a familiar foe for the Lady Barons as the two teams squared off this past Saturday in a 0-0 double overtime draw.
