McDonald Scores 100th Career Goal, Lady Barons Defeat Medaille 10-7

BUFFALO, NY – Senior Carly McDonald became the fourth Franciscan women's lacrosse player to reach the 100-goal plateau as she led the Lady Barons to an exciting 10-7 win over Medaille, Wednesday evening.

McDonald entered the game with 99 career goals and quickly got the milestone as she gave Franciscan a 3-1 lead with 20:12 to play in the first. McDonald added two more goals and a pair of assists to pace Franciscan with five points in the game. The senior assisted on the first two goals of the game for Franciscan.

After Medaille tied the game at 3-3 with 13:12 to play, McDonald kicked off a four-goal run for the Lady Barons that stretched into the second half. The run was highlighted by three-straight goals from senior Elizabeth McEntee. After the Mavericks got one back, freshman Grace Deegan and senior Elizabeth Dawyot scored back to back goals to push the Franciscan lead to 9-4 with 10:27 left in regulation.

The Mavericks had their only back-to-back goals with two straight to cut the lead to 9-6 with 6:23 to play, but McDonald added her last goal with 3:22 left to push the Lady Baron lead to 10-6. With 54 seconds left, Claire Purdy scored for Medaille to bring the score to its final, 10-7, in favor of Franciscan.

In their careers, McEntee and McDonald moved into second and third in career points for Franciscan. McEntee now has 140 points (72 goals, 68 assists) and McDonald boasts 138 (102 goals, 36 assists).

Senior Brittany Bain made 12 saves in the win for Franciscan while classmate Elizabeth Jordan led the game with seven groundballs.

Franciscan will return to action next Friday, April 5, when the Lady Barons play in their first-ever Presidents' Athletic Conference game when they travel to Chatham for a 7:30 pm contest.
