Lady Barons Earn No. 4 Seed in AMCC Tournament

STEUBENVILLE – The Franciscan softball team earned the No. 4 seed in the 2019 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament and will open the weekend against fifth-seeded D'Youville on Friday in Erie, Pa.

Game Preview
For the second time in program history the Lady Barons earned a bid to the tournament and the No. 4 seed is the highest they have received. Franciscan finished the regular season 21-12 and 10-8 in the AMCC, both program bests in the win column. Franciscan will take on the Spartans who come in the tournament as the No. 5 seed after going 12-20 for the season and 9-9 in the AMCC. The winner of the Franciscan/D'Youville game will face the top-seeded Penn State Behrend later that afternoon while the loser with play Saturday morning.
 
The last time the two teams played, the Lady Barons and Spartans split the regular season double header. Franciscan lost the first game 5-0 before bouncing back for an 8-4 win in the night cap. The Lady Barons used a four-run second and a three-run fourth to propel them to the win.
 
Last Time Out
The Lady Barons wrapped up the regular season with a double header split with D'Youville. Franciscan came from behind for the 5-4 win in the opening game. Down 4-3 in the top of the seventh, sophomore Allyson Weiss won the game for the Lady Barons with a two-run home run over the center field fence. Medaille came back to take the second game 2-1.

Franciscan
  • Weiss led the team with a .393 batting average for the year. She hit eight home runs, drove in 35 runs, scored 39 times, stole 29 for 32 bases, and 46 hits.
  • Freshmen Anna Swierczewski, Rachel Cooper and junior Dennise Carrazco each posted 20-RBI regular seasons. Swierczewski had 22 while Cooper had 21 and Carrazco drove in 20 runs.
  • Cooper also added 30 runs scored while drawing a team-best 20 walks. Cooper was 23-for-25 on the base baths.
  • Freshman catcher Chloe Cross has been a brick wall behind the plate for the Lady Barons with a perfect fielding percentage and just two passed balls in 30 games for Franciscan.
  • Freshman Sarah Keating set the program's single-season win record as she went 12-3 in the circle for the Lady Barons while throwing 13 complete games and picking up one save. Keating led the team with a 2.22 ERA over 97.2 innings. The Wadsworth, OH native picked up 62 strike outs on the year.
  • Sophomore Andi Queen became the career-wins leader as she went 7-8 on the year and pushed her career win total to 15. Queen was second on the team with 39 strike outs.
  • Senior Amanda Pulice has appeared in eight games and finished the regular season with a 4.87 ERA over 23.0 innings. Pulice picked up her first career save.
 
D'Youville
  • Junior Ashley Carney led the Spartans with a .467 batting average in 107 at bats. Carney had 50 hits for the year and drove in a team-best 20 RBIs. Carney scored a team high 25 runs and had 15 extra base hits.
  • Junior Megan Meyer was second on the team with 33 hits through the regular season and had 19 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
  • Sophomore Alexa Haberer led the team with a 4.05 ERA over 128.0 innings pitched. Haberer had a 8-13 record on the year while throwing 16 complete games in 25 appearances.
  • Sophomor Brittany Goodrich finished the year 4-7 and had a 5.39 ERA over 75.1 innings.
