Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – The Franciscan volleyball split day one of the Marietta River City Classis, Friday afternoon. The Lady Barons fell to the hosts, Marietta, 3-1 in the first match before sweeping Hood, 3-0 in their final match of the day.
Marietta won the first match by set scores of 14-25, 25-13, 25-11, 25-17) before Franciscan won the match against Hood by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-19.
"We played really well in the first game against Marietta," remarked head coach
Kelly Herrmann. "Marietta has some very good servers and were able to come back in the final three games."
Junior
Meghan Bayer led the Lady Barons with eight kills while sophomore
Renee Antonelli posted six kills in her first match with Franciscan. Sophomore
Emily Nutter led Franciscan with 12 assists in the first match while junior
Sydney Riley added seven.
"We were really able to control the second match with our serves," remarked Coach Herrmann. "We were able to get everyone on the court and get the new players experience during a college match which is so important in the beginning of the season."
The Lady Barons will continue in the River City Classic tomorrow with matches against Mount St. Joseph (1pm) and Berea (3pm).
