BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – After nearly 180 minutes of scoreless soccer for the Franciscan men's soccer team's defense between their first two games, Geneva scored the first goal of the season against Franciscan and defeated the Barons, 2-0, Wednesday.
In the 63
rd minute, the Golden Tornadoes took a 1-0 lead as Jake Broadwick scored his first goal of the season. Alex Yoder sealed the 2-0 win with his first of the year with just 52 seconds left in regulation.
Geneva led in shots (14-5) and corner kicks (7-0), though Franciscan made three saves to Geneva's one.
Each team got a shot off in the first 15 minutes of the game, but neither were on goal and the two defenses held strong. Geneva was able to get the only shot off that went on target but junior goalie
Brian Gaughan made the save to keep the scoreless tie.
After the break, Geneva was able to get a clean shot off and found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead at 62:58. Gaughan made two more saves in the half before Yoder's final goal of the game at 89:08.

Ian Baldau led the team with three shots while junior
Sebastian Koehler took two and had the only Baron shot on goal.
Franciscan will come home for the first time this season as the Barons host Bethany at 4:30 pm in Steubenville.
