WASHINGTON, Pa. – Washington & Jefferson scored in the 15
th minute and held on for the 1-0 win over the Franciscan women's soccer team, Wednesday evening.
At the 14:16 mark, McKenna Lewis got the Presidents on the board with her first goal of the season. Junior
Kaitrin O'Leary put a shot on goal but was turned away by W&J goalie, Shayla Watkins.
The Lady Barons had four more good chances in the first half but couldn't find the equalizer and the Presidents took a 1-0 lead into the break.
W&J changed goalies at halftime and Franciscan immediately put pressure on the new goaltender.
Katie Kilian hit a shot that went just wide before freshman
Ciara McClay put a shot on target just over five minutes into the period but Gabriella Lloyd made her first save of the game.
Franciscan didn't back down in the final 10 minutes as the Lady Barons got off three shots, two on goal, but still couldn't find the back of the net.
McClay and Kilian led Franciscan with two shots each while junior keeper
Marita Ostrich made four stops in goal for Franciscan.
Franciscan will return home for the first time this season on Saturday as the Lady Barons host Hiram at 3pm in Steubenville.
