How it Happened
- Seven seniors were honored today as it was Senior Day for the Men's Basketball team. A starting lineup of five seniors took the court in hopes to avenge an earlier season loss to the Spartans. Nate Nowicki wasted no time to make his presence known as he made the first bucket of the game, a three pointer from the left wing. Senior Nick Mersch followed that up by getting a block on the other end of the floor. Fellow senior Joe Schriner would make the next bucket, but the Spartans would begin a run that would give them a 13-7 lead. Senior John Noce would make his first three pointer of the night, and senior Matt Trent would make a bucket to tighten this one back up to a one point game. A 7-0 Baron run that ended with a Sean Hickey three pointer would give the Barons a six point lead with just over two minutes to play. Devon Darrell would add a pair of buckets during a Spartans run to tie it up at half.
- Senior Jonathan Sigler would come out to start the second half for the Barons, as the Barons would battle in a scrappy first couple minutes that resulted in a 39-39 tie with 18:49 to play. Noce would connect on his second three to give the Barons a lead once again. The Spartans would not go away easily, as they would build a lead up to as high as seven points. A 9-1 run that included seven points from Travis Lien would give the Barons the lead, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the night. The Spartans would battle back to tie it up at 63-63, Drazen Frankovitch would deliver the answer with a strong layup. Matt Trent would add a pair of layups, the second being assisted by Travis Lien on a ridiculous behind the back pass as he came down the lane. At that point the Barons had all the momentum. Hickey would add a pair of threes to stretch the lead to nine points. Lien would add another highlight reel play as he took off from outside the paint to deliver a dunk to stretch the lead to 11 points. Christian Comenge checked in to the game late, the final senior to see playing time, and he would make a cross court pass to Nate Nowicki for him to hit his second three. Barons win 90-78.
