Barons Beat Mavericks in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY - In a must win game the Barons step up and avenge an earlier season loss to Medaille by returning the favor of beating them on their floor. Sean Hickey scores a career high of 28 points.

How it Happened
  • Senior Christian Commenge got the start, and made the first bucket of the game with a quick layup. The game would be back and forth in the early going, as Franciscan would be slightly ahead 13-10 through five minutes of action. The Barons offense would jump out to a commanding lead, as the Mavericks would never have the lead or tie it up the rest of the game. Justin Mack and Travis Lien would make back to back threes to stretch the Baron lead to nine points with 7:57 to play. Sean Hickey and John Noce would make back to back layups late in the half to stretch the lead to a high of 16 points. Matt Trent would make the final jumper of the half, as the Barons would be up by 14 points.
  • Sean Hickey made a three with 17:17 to play in the half, as he would be on his way to making seven three pointers, tying teammate Joe Schriner for most threes in a game as a Baron. The Mavericks would cut it to a nine point game 13:21 to play, but Hickey responded with another three pointer and a pair of free throws. Hickey would make another three with 8:26 to play to give the Barons their largest lead of the game at 19 points, as the Barons were in control. The Mavericks tried to make it interesting down the stretch, but the Barons held on to win by nine.

The Barons will take the short trip over to Alfred State to play at 4 pm on Sunday. This is the makeup game that was originally scheduled for February 8th. The Barons defeated Alfred State at home last month by a score of 67-57. With Penn State Altoona and Mount Aloysius winning the Barons have been eliminated from the AMCC playoffs.
