Terriers Down the Barons in Season Opener

HIRAM, OH - Two teams picked to finish last in their respective conferences square off, as a senior laden Hiram team defeats the younger Franciscan team. Dominic Rohan scores three goals in his collegiate debut.

The Basics
Date: Saturday February 22th
Score: Franciscan 8 - Hiram 17
Records: Franciscan (0-1 - 0-0 PAC) vs. Hiram (1-0 - 0-0 NCAC)
Location: Charles A. Henry Field - Hiram, OH

How it Happened
  • The Terriers would open up the scoring, as Gage St. Leone and Jaret Walland would open up the scoring with a goal each. Freshman Dominic Rohan would answer with his first goal of his collegiate career on an unassisted goal with 13:10 to play in the quarter. Both teams would go scoreless over the next seven minutes, until four different Terriers would score in the final six minutes to take a 6-1 lead, until Michael Araps would score his first goal with a minute to play.
  • Freshman goalie Micah Eby replaced Grant McKeown in goal to start the second quarter, and the Baron defense had a better quarter, but no offensive production. Hunter Jenkins and Gage St. Leone would add their second goals of the game, and Ethan Mayer added his first. These would be the only three goals of the quarter, as the Terriers took a 9-2 lead into the half.
  • The Terriers would not slow up, as they scored the first two goals of the second half. Thomas Thomas would end the Terrier run as he scored his first goal of the season. Joe Miraglia and Seth Arangua would add their first collegiate goals as well, as the Barons would trail 5-12 halfway through the third. Dom Medina would end the threat, as he scored a huge man down goal for the Terriers. Rohan would add his second goal before the Terriers added two more goals late in the quarter.
  • The fourth quarter would be the most competitive, as the Barons and Terriers would tie the quarter with 2 goals a piece. Rohan would add his third goal to give him a very strong debut, and Thomas Thomas would add his second goal, as the Barons would fall 17-8.
