How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan traveled to Washington, Penn. for a PAC conference matchup against Washington & Jefferson (W&J), losing in double overtime 2-3. W&J took an early 1-0 lead from a header on a corner kick opportunity. Franciscan would answer twice before the end of the first half. The first goal was off a corner kick from Angela Postage. Postage took the corner and got a couple lucky bounces and rebounds, and found the ball in the back of the net. Her solo goal would tie the game 1-1. The second goal was from Gabriella De La Torre. De La Torre got a loose ball near the penalty box from an errant W&J pass. She was able to find an opening and put Franciscan up 2-1 heading into the half.Â
The second half, W&J found a way to slow down the Franciscan attack and added their second goal of the game off a loose ball six yards out from the goal. Neither team was able to get an edge in the remaining minutes, and the game went into overtime.Â
Both teams fought hard for position during the first overtime, and there were only 4 shots recorded in total from both teams. The second overtime, was a different story. As both teams became fatigued, more shot opportunities became available. Franciscan found four shots, and W&J found three shots. Unfortunately for Franciscan, the third and final W&J shot would be a goal off a quick counter attack, and Franciscan lost 2-3.
