How It Happened
Franciscan lost to 3rd place Grove City 3-1. It took phenomenal performances from Franciscan's defensive unit to hold off the Grove City attack. Grove City forwards were very fast and were on the attack for most of the game. The skilled and experienced defenseman and midfielders held on as long as they could, but would concede two goals to Grove City's Lagerquist before halftime.
Franciscan went into halftime down 2-0, but had some promising plays to build from and a chance to get back in the game. The very talented Tania Davidson was fighting through multiple defenders on nearly every play she took a touch. Davidson took a free kick from 40yds out after a Grove City foul. She put the ball to the right side of the goal just under the crossbar. The goalkeeper had no chance of punching that one away, and Tania Davidson would score the goal. The halftime adjustments and hard fought play allowed Franciscan to go even with Grove City in the second half, trading one goal a piece. However, the two first half goals were too much to overcome, and Franciscan would lose to Grove City 3-1.
