How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Soccer celebrated senior day and the last home game of the regular season this afternoon. Franciscan would end up losing in overtime 2-1. The Lady Barons got an early lead after Claire Dawyot slipped past two defenders, beat a third going to her left foot, then beating the goalkeeper toward the low left side of the goal. The Lady Barons held onto that lead for the entire first half, and for the first 10 minutes of the second half. However, Chatham possessed the ball very well, and had high-quality opportunities the whole game. With 25 minutes remaining in regulation, Chatham was able to finally capitalize on one of those good opportunities, and they tied the game 1-1. Neither team would give much ground for the remainder of regulation, and the game went into overtime. Only four minutes into overtime, Chatham got a free kick deep on the right side. They sent the ball across the goal and Chatham's Martin headed one passed Franciscan's Dill.Â
