How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Soccer team traveled to Bethany College, where they beat the Bethany Bison 2-1. The Barons are coming off of an exciting victory against Waynesburg, in which some freshmen had stand out games to help get the edge. Today was on the backs of the veteran players. In the 17th minute, the grad student Kaitrin O'Leary took a pass from the other grad student Claire Dawyot, and beat Bison's goalkeeper Garbow. The Barons continued to attach the Bison all half, and in the 35th minute Claire Dawyot would score putting the Barons up 2-0. The Barons had a couple more shots before halftime, but the Bisons held out, and the game entered halftime all Barons 2-0.
In the second half, the Bison would get a lucky break with a foul called in the penalty box. Bisons' Pickett would capitalize on the opportunity, and the Bisons would bring the game to 2-1. For the rest of the game, the Barons would control the bal well, and Baron defenders spent most of the half near midfield. The Barons hung on to their lead, and won the game 2-1.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Kaitrin O'Leary's goal was her second of the season.
-Claire Dawyot now has 12 points on the season, two away from being the best season of her career.
-Baron's defensive unit led by Mary Roach, Angela Postage, and Rebekka Dill have held opponents to 1.5 goals/game, making them the 3rd best unit in the PAC.
-Todays' victory brings the overall record against Bethany to 11-3-1.
Who's Next?Â
The Lady Barons will return home for a big PAC matchup against Geneva on Wednesday night. The Lady Barons will be looking to level the all-time series, as Geneva holds the slight edge at 6-5-1 all-time. Franciscan had great success against Geneva at their place last season, as they won 6-0. Juliana Rubino had a massive day with three goals and an assist. The assist was to her older sister Bella Rubino, who added one goal. Kaitrin O'Leary and Beth Flanagan each scored one as well. Rubino and O'Leary look to build off their recent success against Geneva on Wednesday night.Â
