How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan came into tonight's contest looking to uproot the #1 seed Westminster and get a chance at clinching the #2 seed for playoffs. The Barons did their part and beat the Titans 3-2. Franciscan wanted this one tonight. They got aggressive and found an early goal in the second minute. Just after a corner kick, Nick Miller stuck a solo goal passed the Titan's goalkeeper. The Barons had the lead at 1-0, and would never look back. Seven minutes later, the Barons took a free kick after a Titan's foul. Nick Miller for the second time tonight used the good field position and scored a solo goal. The Titans would attempt to make a comeback with a goal from Haseyama, but the Barons answered right back with a goal by Sebastian Koehler, assisted by the freshmen Joseph St. George. The Barons went into halftime leading, 3-1.Â
In the second half, the Titans made a valiant effort to get on top of this game. They scored their second goal on a counter attack, moments after the Barons had a corner kick. The Titans ramped up the pressure and played a very physical second half. They accrued 13 fouls in the second half alone. This physical play induced three yellow cards; one on Titan's Callahan, one on Barons' Mautone, and one on Barons' Bobak. The Barons defense held strong for the remainder of the second half, and would seal the 3-2 victory.
This regular season shaped up to be one of the best seasons the Barons have ever had. Coach Brent had this to say regarding tonight's win and the successful season, "[It was a] total team effort tonight to beat a really good opponent. I'm super proud of this group...We are going to enjoy this for the next few days, and then set our sights on the PAC tournament."
