How It Happened
The Barons came out strong early, but the Presidents shot it very well from the floor all day to pull away. Sean Hickey and Noah Griffin each score 10 points in the loss.
Franciscan came out hot early in this one, as they were able to jump off to an early lead that stretched to seven points at 16-9 with 12:57 to play in the half. Dalton Davis and Robert Case each added a three in the early going for the Barons, but the Presidents would fight back to take the lead with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes. The pace of play picked up as buckets were exchanged back and forth. A Nicholas Allienello three pointer would give the Barons the lead at 23-21 with a little over seven minutes left. The Presidents remained hot as they would score 31 points over the final seven minutes and take a 52-40 lead into the break.
The Presidents remained hot, as an 11-0 run over the first five minutes of the second half helped them stretch the lead. Redshirt freshman Josh Zimmerman snapped the run as he made a strong driving layup. Noah Griffin would help cut the deficit as he connected on a pair of threes on back to back possessions. The Presidents were too much for the Barons as they would continue to make buckets. Andrew Baxley and Tanner Lien would register their first points in their young Franciscan careers in the final minutes.
