How It Happened
Franciscan hosted Bethany for a Monday night PAC game, and the Bison would get the better of the Lady Barons, by a score of 3-1. After losing set one, the Lady Barons responded by winning a contested game two 26-24. The Bison would go on to win games three and four to secure a crucial PAC win.
In set one, the Bison would jump out to an early 10-2 lead. A trio of Renee Antonelli kills would tighten it up, but the Bison would continue to execute. Caitlin O'Malley added back to back kills to make it 19-13. Bethany closed it out 25-16.
Set two would start much better for the Lady Barons, as they were able to hold the early 5-2 edge. Maria Bosco registered here first kill for the fifth point. With the Lady Barons ahead 7-4, the Bison would go on a 5-0 run to retake the lead. Antonelli would snap the runs by recording another kill, and Franciscan was able to tie it back up at 9-9. The Bison would be the first to fifteen, as they would have the edge at 15-11. Franciscan would find a groove of their own, as a 7-2 run would give the Lady Barons an 18-17 edge. O'Malley and Taylor would add a kill apiece, Antonelli recorded her first ace to take the 22-20 lead. The Bison were able to tie it up at 23 all, but the Lady Barons would stand strong, as they won 26-24.
The Bison came out of set three motivated, as they would jump out to an 11-5 lead. Bethany added a 5-0 run to take a commanding 18-7 edge, that they would not relinquish and win 15-15.
The Barons would respond early in set four, as they held the edge 5-4. Emily Nutter and Renee Antonelli had a kill apiece in the early goings. A 6-0 Bethany run swung the momentum all to the visiting Bison. Marykate Taylor and Emily Nutter added a kill apiece in a small run that tightened the gap to 14-10. The Bison would not let the Lady Barons string together many points in a row this set, as they pulled ahead 20-12. Annika Olsen added a kill late, but the Bison would win 25-15.
Inside the Numbers
- Renee Antonelli led the Lady Barons with 14 kills.
- Lauren Betar led the way with 17 digs.
- Emily Nutter had 28 assists.
- Maria Bosco added two blocks
- Four Bison recorded double digit kills, two of which had double doubles.
- Setter Lynn Burton had 51 assists for the Bison.
Who's Next?
Franciscan will travel to Washington and Jefferson on Friday to take on the Presidents. The Lady Barons are 0-7 all-time against the Presidents, but the two teams have not squared off since 2017.
