Before the game, Franciscan honored its eight senior women's lacrosse players: Margaret McKee, Maria Hilkert, Abigail Schaefer, Maureen Cain, Maddy Smith, Sam Callahan, Blair Wonderly and Teresa Dulac.

Riley O'Brien would score a minute later when Grace Deegan fired a pass through the Tomcat defense, creating the scoring opportunity. Thiel would settle into the game, ripping off five straight goals to take a 5-2 lead, ten minutes into the game. Deegan would halt the run, netting her first goal of the game. Less then a minute later, Maureen Cain would find Deegan for her second straight goal, pulling Franciscan within one. After a Thiel goal, Deegan would again score, this time off a pass by Maria Hilkert. Annie King would then tie the game at six, after Deegan dished her second assist of the game. Wonderly scored off a free position shot giving Franciscan a 7-6 lead. Wonerly would complete her hat trick off Deegan third assist of the game. Leading by one with just under six minutes remaining in the first half, O'Brien would strike for a second time, putting the Barons ahead 9-7. Thiel would close back within a goal, but starting goalkeeper Sam Callahan would make two key saves to keep Franciscan ahead 9-8 heading into the half.
