How It HappenedÂ
After defeating Chatham last season by a score of 3-0, Franciscan was defeated by Chatham in three sets on Thursday evening.Â
In the first set, Franciscan was able to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Chatham would respond with a 14-1 run to be the first team to reach 15 points. Lucy Pridemore, Caitlin O'Malley and Emily Nutter were bale to add kills later in the set, but Chatham would win 25-13.
Franciscan would jump out to another early lead in set number two, as Renee Antonelli had a trio of kills. The Lady Barons held the lead at 6-2. The Cougars responed with a 5-0 run to retake the lead. Antonelli would add another kill to tie it back up at 7-7. Franciscan would continue to play well, as they would regain the lead and hold the lead at 17-14. Chatham would regain momentum, as they would go on an 8-0 run to take a lead that Franciscan couldn't overcome. Cougars won 25-18.
Franciscan was the first team to 15 points for the second set in a row, as they came out strong once again in set three. Brynn Jacobson added a pair of kills to give Franciscan a 17-13 lead. Pridemore, O'Malley and Nutter each added kills to maintain the four point lead at 20-16. Chatham would respond with their last big run of the night, as a 9-1 run would give them the third set.Â

-Â Renee Antonelli led Franciscan with 10 kills on the night.
- Emily Nutter had 20 assists, her third striaght game with at least 20 assists.
- Caitlin O'Malley led the team with nine digs.
- Lucy Pridemore had a pair of solo block.
- Chatham held a kill percentage of .204 versus Franciscan's .064.
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will travel to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday to face the Presidents and the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg in a PAC Tri-Match. The Lady Barons will play in game #1 against the host Presidents. Franciscan will be in search of their first win all-time against Washington and Jefferson, as they have lost in all of the previous eight matchups. Following the conclusion of game #1, Franciscan will face Waynebsurg at approximately 1 pm. Franciscan has had much more success against the Yellow Jackets over the years, as they are 10-1 all-time against them, including wins in their last nine meetings. Last season, Franciscan won in a five set thriller at home. The win featured the Lady Barons spotting the Yellow Jackets the first two set, anf then winning the next three sets. Renee Antonelli had 20 kills and Emily Nutter had 39 digs in the victory. Saturday's matchup will also be Coach Jordan Barton's first time coaching against her alma mater.Â
