How It HappenedÂ
The Lady Barons traveled to Hiram, Ohio for the second game of their season after a commanding victory on-the-road in Buffalo, NY against Medaille College. This was the third meeting between Franciscan and Hiram. Franciscan lost both prior matches 0-2. The Lady Barons were unable to pick up their first win against Hiram and fell 1-0 in overtime.
In the first half, the game was back-and-forth with no clear advantage, but the Lady Barons managed to have a slight advantage out shooting Hiram 4-3 on goal. Casey Boin had a great start to the afternoon with two shots on goal. However, each team's defense held and the score at halftime was 0-0.
The Barons spent much of the second half on the defensive end. Hiram's Harris continued her efforts from the first half, and pressured the Barons by adding two more shots on goal bringing her game total to three. Hiram out-shot the Barons 6-0 in the second half. Rebekka Dill had another great day recording 9 saves and not allowing a goal in regulation. This was another great performance from her after starting her collegiate career with a shutout earlier this week. Thanks to the defensive efforts, the Barons held Hiram to no goals and the game went to overtime 0-0.
Five minutes into overtime, Hiram's Pittman put the ball to the high left corner of the goal and grabbed the first goal of the game, and ending the game in overtime 1-0.Â
