How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Volleyball opened up conference play at Thiel on Saturday afternoon. The Barons were unable to pickup their first career win against the Tomcats.
The first set was an amazing comeback from the Barons, as the Tomcats opened up the set on an 11-1 run. Antonelli and Hebert added the Barons first kills of the night, as they slowly closed the gap to 14-6. Franciscan put together a 5-0 run to pull to within five at 19-14. They would not let them win the set easily, as they pulled to within three at 23-20, but then the Tomcats would be able to close out the set.Â
Set two started out with much more back and forth, as Gabrielle Disselkamp got the Barons first kill of this set. The Barons were trailing 8-7, and then the Tomcats would pull away with a 6-0 run. Luebbers would slow down the Tomcats with a couple of kills and keep the deficit to around six points, but the Tomcats would be able to close out the second set.
The Barons took a 2-1 lead early on in set three before the Tomcats put together a 5-0 run to take the lead. Disselkamp served for three straight points to tighten the gap, and then Antonelli did the same to give Franciscan the lead back at 10-9.The Tomcats would then string together seven straight points and not look back, as they controlled the remainder of the set to end the match.
Inside the NumbersÂ

The Mounties have won the last two matchups though, as Franciscan has not beat them since 2017 in a five set thriller.Â
