How It Happened
Franciscan Women's Volleyball traveled to Geneva on Thursday night for a PAC matchup against the Golden Tornadoes.
The Barons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the opening set, as Cadman got the first kill of the game. The Barons held the lead till the Golden Tornadoes would tie it up at 14-14. Disselkamp would get in a groove, as she had three kills in a row to help Franciscan take a 21-17 lead. The Barons would work their way to match point at 24-22, but the Golden Tornadoes would battle back to tie it up and push it to extra points. The Barons would have two more cracks at match point, but not be able to get it, as they fell in the first set 28-26.
Antonelli picked up a pair of kills in the second set, but the Golden Tornadoes would take charge of that set to win 25-10. Geneva would continue to hold the lead in the third set, as they jumped out to an early 10-4 lead. Gracie Francis and Gabrielle Disselkamp would add kills to help the Barons pull to within four and snap the Geneva run. The Barons would pull to within two at 16-14 with a 5-0 run that included a kill from Madison Kozares. Geneva would not relinquish the lead the entire set, as they would close the Barons out by a score of 25-19.
Inside the Numbers
- Mary Jean Cadman registered a season-high of seven kills on the night.
- Sara Moore led the team with 20 digs.
- Grace Wallace had 20 set assists, while Elizabeth Libel added seven.
- Gabrielle Disselkamp picked up her 49th service ace of the season, second most by a Baron in a season in program history.
Who's Next?
Franciscan will head to Westminster for the regular season finale on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Barons are 1-8 all-time against the Titans with Franciscan losing the last six matchups. The Titans have had a down year this season, as they have only won a handful of games this season after being picked to finish second in the league in the PAC Coaches' Preseason Poll.
