Franciscan 5, Saint Francis (Ind.) 4
Doubles
Doubles play began with a forfeit of the #3 doubles pairings by St. Francis. The #2 doubles of
Aidan Howard and
Josh Robbins quickly finished their match and only dropping two points. The top doubles pairing struggled early and could not overcome the deficit.
Gary Pierre and
Travis Mistry lost their match 6-3. Going into Singles play the Barons were winning 2-1.
Singles
Singles play started with the Barons winning a no-contest point with the #6 hitters, since St. Francis did not have a hitter to compete. The #3 hitters were the first to finish. St. Francis' May continued his strong play from doubles into his singles match, winning against the Barons'
Josh Robbins in two sets. Then,
Gary Pierre lost to his opponent in two sets. This brought the team match score to tied at 3. There were 4 matches remaining and either team needed just two to pick up the team win. In a roller coaster of a match,
Travis Mistry won in three sets. Travis won the first set 6-4, then handily lost his second match 1-6. Going into the 3rd tie-break set, Mistry got his head back to where it was in the first set, and made quick work of his opponent, winning 10-3.
Leo Morella quickly won his first set, but his opponent managed to grab a 5th game and forcing a tiebreak to determine the second set. Morella won the tie-break, won his match, and clinched the team match. The last hitters were by far the most exciting. In the tie-break 3rd set,
Aidan Howard was down 9-6 facing elimination. Howard won four straight points, going up 10-9 and looking at match point. His opponent took the next two points, then Howard won a point to bring it back to deuce. The next two points went to St. Francis winning the hardest fought singles match the Barons have seen all year.Â
Franciscan 7, Hamline 2
Doubles
Franciscan went 2-1 in doubles play. The #2 pairing of
Aidan Howard and
Josh Robbins finished their match first with a win for Franciscan. The #1's
Gary Pierre and
Travis Mistry found redemption from their doubles match earlier in the day, and won their match.
Billy Presume and
Aidan Palladino had a tightly contested match. The #3 pairings were tied 7-7, and went into a tie-break set. Although very close, Hamline's Le and Taylor got the best of Presume and Palladino and won their tie break set. After double play the team score was 2-1 Franciscan.
Singles
 Â
Aidan Palladino faced one of his opponents from doubles play. This time, Palladino got the win, and scored the first point for Franciscan in singles play.
Gary Pierre had a heavy-handed victory. He won his #1 match only dropping 3 games.
Travis Mistry had similar success in singles. Mistry after giving up 4 games in the first set, turned it up and held his opponent to only 1 point in the second set.
Josh Robbins lost his singles match after forcing a 3rd set tie break, but unable to close the tie-break set out for a win.
Billy Presume started his match off slow. Presume had to go to a tie-break before winning the first set. However, in the second set he turned it up and only allowed 2 games to the opponent.
Aidan Howard was the last to finish. The #5 singles match was highly contested in the first set. Howard dropped the second set to his opponent, but in the 3rd set managed to edge out a close one 10-7.Â
