How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan began their 2022 PAC conference play at home versus Westminster. Joanna Hilkert lead the Barons off with a quick solo goal in the first minute of play. She followed that play up with the second goal of the game, another solo goal, coming from behind the net, running across three defenders, and scoring passed the left shoulder of the goalie. Hilkert had a career high 8 point performance this afternoon. The Barons added a couple more goals and were winning 4-1 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Annie King started the scoring off in the 2nd quarter. King cut from the far left side and grabbed a pass from Joanna Hilkert standing behind the net. King took one step and bounced the shot under the goalie's stick, scoring her 15th goal of the season. King had another 5 goal performance, again tying her career best. Her 4th goal of the game was the last score before halftime. Theresa Lyle won the draw control and quickly moved the ball up field finding Annie King in space. King fired a shot that was blocked by her defender. She picked the ground ball up and shot it again, this time the goalie saved it with her chest. King was relentless and picked the rebound off her shot. The third try was the charm, and she snuck it passed the goalie's left side. At halftime the Barons were leading 9-3.
Margaret McKee, who normally anchors the defensive end, scored the first goal of the second half. This was her first goal of the season and second of her career. Franciscan forced a running clock in the 4th quarter with Joanna Hilkert's 5th goal. In the waning minutes, Elizabeth Dudas grabbed a ground ball after a missed shot from Westminster. Dudas saw an opening on the field and ran the ball to the offensive end. Dudas ran the give-and-go with Annie King and scored her 2nd goal of the season and 5th of her career. This was the last score of the game. Franciscan picked up its first PAC win of the season starting conference play 1-0.
