Franciscan 9, Washington & Jefferson 0
Doubles   Â
Franciscan started the day off with a quick 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles play. The duo of
Billy Presume and
Leo Morella continue to be one of the hardest #3 pairs to play against. The duo have only lost one doubles match all season with a total point differential of +9. Today, Presume and Morella were the lead off point for the Barons. The consistent #1 pair of
Gary Pierre and
Travis Mistry won their match 8-1, they were the only Barons pair to give up a point to their opponent. The last match to finish was
Josh Robbins and
Aidan Howard in the #2 doubles match. However, the pace of the game was not indicative of closeness of the match. Multiple points were decided by double serve faults from W&J hitters, which slowed the pace of the match down. In the end, Howard and Robbins won every ball in play and swept the match.Â
 Â
Singles
Franciscan hitters had stronger legs on the day. This was evident in the way they covered the court.
Gary Pierre,
Travis Mistry, and
Aidan Palladino all finished their matches in straight sets. With Mistry's match win, Franciscan scored their 5th team point and clinched the victory.
Aidan Howard finished his match only dropping 3 games.
Billy Presume had an excellent game mixing strategies keeping his opponent on edge. Presume followed his hard serve by moving forward to the net and making his opponent chase shots. Presume won his match only conceding 2 games.
Josh Robbins was the last to finish. Presidents' Vassah put up a good fight in the first set, but Robbins ultimately won that set 6-4. Robbins honed in on the second set winning 6-1 and the match. With Robbins match win the Barons completed the sweep of the President's and grab their first win of 2022 PAC play.Â
Who's Next?Â
The Barons travel to Grove City, Penn. to face Grove City College on Friday April 1st at 3:30 PM. Grove City was the preseason favorites to win the conference, being ranked #1 by the coaches poll. Last season the Barons were swept at home during the regular season, and swept 5-0 in the Conference Championship.
Aidan Palladino was part of the #2 doubles pair that gave Grove City a run for their money. In singles, Palladino was tied with his opponent 4-4 before the match was left unfinished. Franciscan will look to snap a 4 game losing streak versus Grove City
