How It HappenedÂ
The Franciscan Men's Lacrosse team took the short trip to Bethany on Wednesday night, and they come home with their first PAC win in an overtime thriller.
The Barons would score first, as Gavin Cook scored four minutes into this one on an assist by Dominic Scordino. Nearly two minute later, Alexander Dhabliwala would find the back of the net to give Franciscan a 2-0 edge. Late in the opening quarter, the Bison would score their first goal, as the score would be 2-1 as we entered the second quarter. Early on in the quarter Bethany would find the equalizer. Then the Barons responded with two goals of their own. Dominic Scordino and Samuel Marshall would score those to give Franciscan a two goal lead at 4-2. The Bison would level the score with a pair of quick goals with four minutes left in the half. Gavin Cook would score his second goal of the day with under a minute to play in the half, but Bethany would answer with a goal with eight seconds left in the half. That would send us to halftime with a score of 5-5.Â
Bethany would take their first lead of the game in the third quarter, as they score first just three minutes in to the second half. Franciscan would respond, as Gavin Cook scored a man-up goal on a nice pass from Alexnader Dhabliwala. Then with three minutes left in the quarter, Samuel Marshall would score his second of the day on a pass from Jack Nelson. Franciscan would take a 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter. Bethany would score two goals in a row to retake the lead with seven minutes lef to play. The Bison defense stepped up big and had Franciscan stifled until late in the quarter. With twenty seconds left, Samuel Marshall came through in the clutch with his third goal of the day to send us to overtime.Â
In the overtime period, the first team to score wins. Franciscan won the opening faceoff, and they would get a good look on goal, but it was saved. Bethany countered quickly and got a great look as well, but Richard Vale II got the save and cleared the ball to the Bethany end. Gavin Cook took a bouncing shot which looked good for awhile but was saved. After a Bethany turnover, Dominic Scordino ripped a game winning shot with under thirty seconds remaining in the overtime period. Franciscan claimed their first PAC win, as they are now in 6th place with a 1-2 conference record.Â

- Samuel Marshall and Gavin Cook each scored three goals.
- Dominic Scordino had a team high six points, as he had four assists.
- Alex Gutierrez had a team best nine ground balls.
- Jeofre Strandhagen was 12-17 on faceoffs.Â
- Lancaster, Vale II and Nelson each caused three turnovers.Â
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will return to action next Wednesday at Chatham. The Barons are in search of their first win all-time against the Cougars, as they have won the previous three meetings. The Cougars are having a down-season, as they are currently 2-9 with an 0-2 PAC record. They will try to get back on the winning way at Washington & Jefferson on Friday before hosting Franciscan at 7:00 pm on Wednesday night.Â

Franciscan University Athletics is partnering with Steubenville Conferences to offer summer sports camps in conjunction with the Steubenville Main Campus 1 (June 9-12th, 2022) and 3 (June 23-26th, 2022). Youth Conferences. Participants will be able to strengthen both their athletic skills and their relationship with Christ in this uniquely Franciscan hybrid experience.
