How It Happened
The Barons traveled to Waynesburg to secure a PAC victory. The win brings the Barons to .500 in the PAC this season putting them in position to take 3rd place after six games.
The veteran leader Grace Deegan lead the scoring off with a goal 20 seconds into the game off a Joanna Hilkert setup. Riley O'Brien followed with a pair of goals. The second goal assisted by Elizabeth Dudas. Annie King scored the third goal of the game assisted by Grace Deegan. With that assist Deegan tallied her 184th career point surpassing former teammate Carly McDonald and becoming the all-time leader in points at Franciscan. Deegan finished the day with 3 goals putting her just one goal behind Mary Krolicki and becoming the all-time leader in goals at Franciscan. After the team celebrated the moment with Deegan it was right back to business with a goal from Joanna Hilkert, then Dudas scored a goal from a free position to close out the first quarter. In the second quarter freshmen Katheryn Brehm scored her 12th goal of the season. Joanna Hilkert, Annie King, Theresa Lyle, Riley O'Brien, Grace Deegan, Mary Bohli all added goals in the second quarter bringing the Baron lead to 11 going into the half. At halftime, the score was 13-2 and the Barons were firmly in control of the game.
In the second half the Barons worked the ball and used up most of their shot clock to get their shot. Slowing the game down protected their lead, but also slowed down the hot Baron scorer's. Annie King, scored another pair of goals in the third quarter with Grace Deegan adding another goal to bring the score to 16-4 heading into the final quarter.
The fourth quarter was all Elizabeth Dudas. She scored a hat-trick within just the fourth quarter adding to her already tallied goal and assist. Dudas was a perfect 4-4 with SOG and goals, she also grabbed a ground ball, caused turnover, and a draw control to top her evening off. Her six points were triple her prior career best. Annie King wrapped up goal scoring with 3 minutes remaining off an assist by Carolyn Cooke. This final goal brought her game total to 5 goals scored and the final score to 21-5. The Baron defensive effort lead by Margaret McKee and Ashley Morisey held the Yellow Jackets to only 7 SOG.

Who's Next?
Franciscan returns home for a PAC matchup against Chatham on Saturday at 4 pm. It will be Senior Day in Steubenville, as we will be able to honor our seven seniors. Annie King, Grace Deegan, Margaret McKee, Isabel Geffken, Drane Perpepaj, Elizabeth Dudas, and Margaret Gorman will be honored pregame. It is a pivotal matchup for both teams, who are trying to make the playoffs. Chatham is in fourth with a 3-2 in conference record, so they sit a half game ahead of Franciscan with their 3-3 record. The top four teams make the PAC Tournament, so a win is crucial to keep postseason dreams alive.
Baron Summer Camps
Franciscan University Athletics is partnering with Steubenville Conferences to offer summer sports camps in conjunction with the Steubenville Main Campus 1 (June 9-12th, 2022) and 3 (June 23-26th, 2022). Youth Conferences. Participants will be able to strengthen both their athletic skills and their relationship with Christ in this uniquely Franciscan hybrid experience.
