How It Happened
Franciscan baseball hosted the PAC top-seeded Washington & Jefferson on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader on the hottest day of the year in Steubenville. The Barons would get on the board first in the bottom of the first. With two outs,
Andrew Normandin drove in
Michael Maynard. The inning could have been much more, but
Patrick Wallace was thrown out at home on a close play that the call could have went either way. The Presidents would tie it up in the third with one run of their own.Â
The Presidents would hit four home runs in the fourth, three of which came with two outs to plate seven runs and take a firm hold on this game. They would go on to win 10-1.Â

How It Happened
The Presidents struck first in game two, as they scored seven runs over the first two innings.
Ryan Anselmino got Franciscan on the board in the third inning with an RBI triple that scored
Aidan Hickey.
Patrick Wallace then doubled in Anselmino to tighten the gap at 7-2. The Presidents added one run in the top of the fourth. Franciscan would get a pair of runs on two solo shots.
Brendan Burke and
Dylan Robb each cleared the left field fence. The Barons would pull to within two runs in the fifth, as they scored a pair to set the score at 8-6.Â
The Presidents would go on to score seven runs over the next three innings to set the score at 15-6 heading to the bottom of the eighth. The Barons would threaten in the eighth, as they scored three runs. A double play would allow one to score but killed some of the momentum. Washington & Jefferson added two more runs in the ninth, but Franciscan would not quit, as they entered the ninth down by eight runs. Anselmino hit another extra-base hit, as he doubled in Hickey. He would score later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Samuel Tyler would then single in
Ryan Scavnicky, and
Patrick Wallace scored on a wild pitch. The Presidents would finally get the final out to win by five.Â

Up Next
Franciscan will travel to Washington & Jefferson to play one nine inning game there tomorrow at 1 pm. The Barons played there twice last season, as Washington & Jefferson hosted the PAC Baseball Tournament last season, and they are in line to host again in May this season.Â

Franciscan University Athletics is partnering with Steubenville Conferences to offer summer sports camps in conjunction with the Steubenville Main Campus 1 (June 9-12th, 2022) and 3 (June 23-26th, 2022).
