How It Happened
Franciscan traveled to Waynesburg to finish up their season. After a tough game 1 loss, the Barons battled in game 2 but fell short by one run in the second game.
The Barons were off to a good start in the first inning.
Rachel Cooper was walked, then
Jenny Massey had the lead off double down the left field line advancing Cooper to third.
Ariana Arnone reach on an error which scored Cooper. In the bottom of the inning the Barons allowed a run, heading into the second inning the game was tied 1-1.
In the ensuing innings, Waynesburg scored 7 runs, 7 runs, then 5 runs. That scoring rate was a lot to keep up with, and the Barons bats weren't there for game 1. The game ended after a scoreless top of the 5th, and the teams began preparing for game 2.

How It Happened
In game 2 Franciscan jumped on the board first with a run in the second inning.
Felicia MacGillivray doubled to center field and
Elizabeth Gibson ran all the way from first to home. In the top of the 5th
Chloe Cross singled to first base. With that hit she became the fifth player in Franciscan softball history to eclipse the 100 career hit milestone. She joins her teammates Massey and Cooper who also reached that milestone their senior year. The game remained 1-0 for four more innings until both teams broke out in the sixth.
In the top of the sixth, Ariana Arnon led off with a single to right field.
Brooklynn Miller hit a SAC bunt advancing Arnone into scoring position at second.
Alexis McKnight was hit by a pitch and walked to first.
Lilly Wahl was walked and advanced McKnight to third.
Chloe Cross stepped up to the plate with bases loaded. Cross hit a single down the left side scoring Arnone, and the bases stayed loaded.
Rachel Cooper put the bat on the ball and made it on base due to an error by the right fielder. This scored both McKnight and Wahl. These 3 runs put Franciscan back on top 4-2. In the 7th Franciscan was held scoreless, and came just short of holding onto their lead in the bottom of the 7th. Franciscan has been excellent in game 2's of doubleheaders the last couple weeks. It was an impressive feat to overcome a great Baron team late in the game.
Losing the last game of the season is never what any team plans for, but the seniors of this team should be very proud of themselves. Three seniors made it over the 100 career hit mark, and big time wins against Geneva and Westminster are something to hang your hat on. Coach McKnight always speaks very highly of the ladies, and was never surprised during their moments of success. He believed they could compete with the best and this team proved just that.
