How It Happened
The Franciscan Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Greenville, Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon for a matchup against Thiel. The two teams were quite evenly matched, but the Tomcats would pull out the 9-8 win, as they held onto a one goal lead at the half.
The Tomcats struck first with a pair of goals in the first minute of play, but then the Barons settled into their own. Samuel Marshall scored the first Franciscan goal on an assist from Alexander Dhabliwala. The Tomcats responded with another goal of their own less than a minute later to take a 3-1 edge, still with 11:00 minutes to play in the first quarter. Franciscan would level the score with a goal from Dominc Rohan and Samuel Marshall while their defense held the Tomcats scoreless over that stretch. In the second quarter, Franciscan would take advantage of a man-up opportunity. Dhabliwala would find the back of the net for his first goal of the day. The Tomcats would manage to retake the lead with a pair of goals. They would hold a 5-4 edge at the half.
The third quarter would be the most defensively dominated quarter, as only two goals were scored, one from each team. Gavin Cook scored the Franciscan goal to set the score at 5-5. The Tomcats would score with one minute remaining in the quarter to give them a one goal edge, as we headed into the fourth quarter. The Tomcats would score the first two goals of the fourth to move their lead up to 8-5. Franciscan would answer with three goals of their own in a little over a minute game-time. Dominic Rohan scored a pair, and Jack Nelson scored his first of the game. Thiel would find the gamewinner with a minute and half left to play, as the home team would win 9-8.
