How It Happened
Tonight was the fourth meeting for these two programs. Up until now the Barons have never defeated the Terriers. In fact, they've never scored a goal. Enter Tania Davidson and Juliana Rubino. The pair of forwards have the combination of good footwork, speed, and can flatten the ball when they kick it. Each scored a pair of goals and Juliana contributed 6 of the 19 SOG from the Barons on the way to a 5-0 route. The fifth goal contributor was freshmen Corinne Sanborn. Corinne saw 45 minutes of field time and registered her first collegiate goal and her 2nd assist of the season.
The Barons played 26 different players in tonight's tilt. The team effort to run down, fight for loose balls, and control the ball lead to 0 shots from the Terriers. Shutouts generally get credited to a goalkeeper. Tonight they were both on easy street. From the top of the lineup in Bella Rubino and Gabriella De La Torre to the newcomers and freshmen like Teaghan Elmore and Claire Salyer, the control of the game was impeccable. Basketball coach John Wooden used to say perfection isn't the absence of mistakes, but doing your best to be your best in everything that you do. Holding a team to 0 shots, not SOG, 0 balls kicked in the direction of the goal with an intent to score is the product of 26 talented soccer players doing their best to be their best. With a road game and one more home game before conference play begins, the Barons are playing a high level game and show no signs of plateauing.
