How It Happened 
Franciscan Women's Volleyball hosted Washington & Jefferson on Tuesday night at Steubenville Catholic Central High School for their second of three matchups in the 2022 season. The Barons would fall to the Presidents in three sets to snap their five game winning streak, but they will get a chance at redemption when they travel to Washington, Pa. for a conference matchup next month. 

Franciscan seemed to be in control in the early goings of set one, as Gracie Francis, Gabrielle Disselkamp, Renee Antonelli, and Rani Hebert each had kills in the first six points to give Franciscan a 6-4 edge. The Presidents would start to get going, as they would flip the score in a hurry to hold a 13-9 lead. It was all Presidents for awhile as it did not look good for the Barons with them trailing 23-15. A 4-0 run sparked some life in the home faithful fans, as Renee Antonelli added her first ace of the night. The Presidents would earn the next point to put them one point away from taking set one. Rani Hebert would spark the Barons on a 3-0 run, including two aces of her own, but then the Presidents would get the final point to win 25-22. 

After a Franciscan 2-0 run to start set two, the Presidents would answer with a 6-0 run to take an early lead. Disselkamp, Wallace and Antonelli each added kills for Franciscan to fight back to within one point of Washington & Jefferson. The Presidents would get things going, as they were able to jump out to a 21-12 lead. The Barons would try another heroic comeback, as Disselkamp and Luebbers each had a couple of kills in a 4-0 run, but the Presidents would close out the set by a score of 25-16.

In the third set, the score would be set at 4-4 through the first eight points, The Presidents would take the lead and not look back, as  Franciscan would only get to within one point of the lead the rest of the way. The Presidents would be the first to fifteen at 15-9. Madison Kozares would come in and get her first kill of the night on a nice set from Elizabeth Libel. The Barons would not be able to recapture the lead or momentum, as the Presidents won 25-16. 

Inside the Numbers 
- Antonelli led the Barons with three aces.
- Sara Moore had a team high 14 digs.
- Rani Hebert had two blocks on the night.
- Lizzie Carmichael led all players with 12 kills on the night.

Who's Next? 
Franciscan will take a short trip on Thursday evening to Bethany for a non-conference matchup against the Bison. The Barons are 1-13 all-time against them with the lone win coming in 2019. The Barons had 51 kills and eight blocks that day, as they won in four sets. Bethany holds a losing record thus far this season, as they have a had a very challenging non-conference slate. This should be a great matchup to see where this year's Franciscan team stacks up to one of the best teams in the league year in and year out.
