How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan Women's Volleyball made the trip to Bethany for a non-conference contest against the Bison, who were picked to finish first in the PAC Coaches' Preseason Poll. The Bison would live up to the hype at least in this matchup, as they beat the Barons in three sets.
Franciscan struggled to get going early on in set one, as Bethany would jump out to an 18-2 lead. Madison Kozares, Renee Antonelli, and Gabrielle Disselkamp would all add kills, as the Barons would show a lot of heart. Bison would take the first set 25-12.Â
In set two, Bethany would jump out to an early 7-3 edge. Renee Antonelli would score the next three points for Franciscan with three kills to set the score at 8-6. Gabrielle Disselkamp would be the next outside hitter to go on a streak, as she scored the next three points for Franciscan. Disselkamp would have five kills in the second set, but the Bison would take it by a score of 25-17.
Gabrielle Disselkamp and Elizabeth Luebbers started off well in set three to help Franciscan establish a 3-1 lead. Disselkamp would take the lead in this set once again, as she would keep Franciscan in it. Meghan Hickey would get an ace to set the score at 20-15, but then the Bison scored five unanswered points to win the final set.Â
Inside the NumbersÂ
- Disselkamp led the Barons with 11 kills.
- Sara Moore was the lone Baron with double-digit digs with 17 over the three sets.
- Madison Kozares had two blocks.
- The Bison had 12 total blocks.
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will head to Chatham on Saturday for a non-conference matchup against the Cougars. The Barons are 13-5 all-time against the Cougars, but they did lose the last two matchups that came in the 2021 season. Their last win came in the 2020-21 season in a three set sweep at Chatham. In the win, Renee Antonelli had 21 kills, which is the second most in program history in a three set match.
