How It Happened
The beginning of the season was a storied one. The talk of the department has been about the best start to a season for the men's program. Today's performance was far from a disappointment to be discouraged about. Even Achilles had a weakness in his heel. The preseason favorite Wolverines gave the men exactly what they needed, a little resistance to keep them focused and hungry to reach their lofty goals.
Today's score is not indicative of the even match these teams are. The defensive-minded Barons played the game slow and masterfully worked the ball up the field. If you never give the other team the ball, then they can't score on you. Joshua Atkinson and Liam Nagle controlled the back line letting the forwards take runs and stab at the goalkeeper. Most counter attacks from the Wolverines were swallowed up pushing them back onto their heels. It wasn't until past the midway mark in the first half that the Wolverines began to have significant time with the ball and on the attack. The Wolverines scored on a quick counter attack and on an unlucky bounce off a saved shot by Jax Mautone. At halftime, the Barons dominated possession and the shot count was close at 10-8 Wolverines. The player of the half for the Wolverines was their goalkeeper. His 3 saves were "gimmie" goals for the Barons against any other team. The second half became a different game. The Wolverine's put in 4 more goals to finish the game 6-0.

Inside the Numbers
-Barons were out shot 27-18
-Jax Mautone grabbed 7 saves
-Nick Miller and Nick Cross led the Barons with 2 SOG each

Who's Next?
Franciscan will continue PAC play at home against Thiel on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Barons are 6-2-2 all-time against the Tomcats with a pair of wins in their last two matchups. Last season five different players found the back of the net in a 5-0 win at Thiel. Only three shots by the Tomcats got all the way to Jax Mautone, and he was able to save all of them to record the shutout.
