How It Happened
The Barons hosted the Thiel Tomcats tonight at Trinity Health System Field and extended their undefeated conference record to three. Tonight's game was a complete team effort for the Barons as 26 players see field time in tonight's win. The Barons dominated their opponent in all measures throughout the game including, possession, shots, SOG, and corner kicks. In addition to the team efforts multiple players eclipsed career milestones and highlights.
The Tomcat goalkeeper was excellent this evening. The first goal of the night was in the 15th minute, but should have been much earlier on several occasions. To her credit the saves she had to make were remarkable. Never the less, eventually one had to fall. Gabriella De La Torre gathered a corner kick from Angela Postage and put the first goal of the evening up. This opened the flood gates. Less than 60 seconds later, Anni Winogradoff grabbed her first goal of the season off a long cross from Tania Davidson. Fast forward 5 minutes and Juliana Rubino sunk another goal once again off a Tania Davidson ball to put the Barons up 3-0. Shortly before halftime, Tania Davidson collected a loose ball off a rebound from a Gabriella De La Torre shot and easily kicked it in. Going into halftime the Barons led 4-0
To start the second half coach Salamida announced on the field "starters in"..."plus Bri!". The Baron team went wild as they cheered for their teammate Bri DeChristopher getting in the game. Bri got her money's worth. She saw a few shots. Two shots went wide and a third she skillfully collected to record her first career save. She also saw her first career PK. The head official called a charge on a Baron defender right on the line of the goalie box. He ruled it a penalty kick. Bri read the shooter correctly and guessed the way she would shoot. The shot was placed just inside the post and just outside of her reach. Thiel got their lone goal of the game off that PK. Tania Davidson grabbed one more goal for good measure off a Claire Salyer assist to round out scoring. The Barons move to 3-0 in the conference and look strong as they leave for back-to-back away games.
Inside the Numbers
-Angela Postage's 9 season assists ties the program record for assists in a season and is currently leading the PAC
-Tania Davidson's two assists were the first of the year and fourth of her career
-Davidson's two goals makes her the 4th player in program history to score 20+ career goals
-Tania now leads the PAC in Shots, SOG, and goals
-The Barons out shot the Tomcats 25-5
Who's Next?
Franciscan will continue PAC play at Bethany on Friday afternoon. The Barons hold an 11-3-1 edge in the all-time series record over the Bison, including wins in their last three matchups. Last season, two first half goals proved to be enough, as the defense stepped up huge in a 2-1 win. The Bison are undefeated thus far in non-conference action this season, but have struggled somewhat in PAC play.
