How It Happened 
Franciscan had little time to recover from their tough, five-set loss to Washington & Jefferson on Friday night. They got right back into competition on Saturday morning with a 10:00 a.m. start time against host Marietta. 

The first set started out with each team trading points. Franciscan had kills from Gabrielle Disselkamp, Madison Fields, Rani Hebert and Renee Antonelli, as the score was 6-6. The Pioneers would then go on a pair of 4-0 runs, before a 9-0 run would put set one out of reach. 

Franciscan would hold their first lead of the day, as the score would be 7-6 in set number two. The Pioneers would get on a run once again with a 5-0 run to take the lead back. Elizabeth Luebbers stepped up big for Franciscan with three kills this set to keep them in it, but the Pioneers offense was too much to handle, as they took set two.

Franciscan showed a lot of heart in set three, as they would take an early 5-4 lead. Luebbers had three of Franciscan's first seven points to keep them in the lead. The Barons would grow their lead up to five points at 16-11. Rani Hebert picked up a kill and Meghan Hickey added an ace to keep the five point edge at 20-15. The Pioneers responded with a 6-0 run to take a lead that they would not relinquish, as they went on to win the third and final set.

Inside the Numbers 
- Elizabeth Luebbers led Franciscan with 8 kills.
- Grace Wallace had 11 digs and nine set assists.
- Madison Fields had one solo block and one assist.

How It Happened 
Immediately following the conclusion of the matchup with the Pioneers, the Barons took on the Owls in their third game of opening weekend. The Barons would earn their first win of the season, as they took down the Owls in four sets.

Set one was the closest of the four sets, but Franciscan would jump out to an early 6-2 lead. Renee Antonelli would lead the way offensively with a pair of kills in the early run. The Owls took their first lead of the night at 9-8, but then Rani Hebert would take the momentum back with a big kill. Franciscan would go on a 6-2 run, as Elizabeth Luebbers would get three kills in the run. Kenyon would respond to tie it up a 17-17. The Franciscan offense stepped up once again, as Gabrielle Disselkamp had three kills down the stretch to help Franciscan win set one. 

Kills kept on coming, as Franciscan scored their first five point of set two off of kills. Sara Moore added an ace to give Franciscan a 6-3 lead. The Barons took control of this set with a a 5-0 run that set the score at 16-7. On that run Disselkamp and Luebbers each had two kills. The Owls would tighten it up to a five point game at 20-15. The Franciscan would go on a 5-1 run to close out the second set. Rani Hebert took the offensively lead down the stretch with a pair of kills. 

The Owls came out aggressive in set three, as they quickly built an 11-5 edge. Rani Hebert and Grace Wallace added aces to slow down the attack to set the score at 12-9. Unfortunately the Barons would not get any closer to the lead, as the Owls would go on to win the third set by a score of 25-16.

A back and forth start to set four resulted in a 7-7 score. Franciscan would take charge, as Rani Hebert added four kills to help Franciscan be the first to fifteen points at 15-8. Franciscan would hold onto their lead to take a 25-16 win in set four to win their first match of 2022 season.

Inside the Numbers 
- Franciscan had 15 kills in set one and two, the most in a set thus far this season.
- Grace Wallace had a career-high 40 set assists. Which is the second most in a four set game in Franciscan history.
- Sara Moore had her second 20+ dig game of the season with 26.
- Gabrielle Disselkamp had a double double with 14 kills and 15 digs.

Who's Next? 
Franciscan will continue to play on the road, as they take on, former AMCC foe, Pitt.-Greensburg on Tuesday evening. The Barons are 10-3 all-time against the Bobcats, including wins in their last three meetings. The last time they played was in 2019, as Franciscan won 3-1 after losing the first set. Renee Antonelli led the way for Franciscan with 12 kills in the four set match.
