Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Aaron Spoelman

Playoff Hopes at Risk

Franciscan 0, Saint Vincent 4

Starting XI
Elise Winogradoff, Teaghan Elmore, Gabriella De La Torre, Isabella Corley, Maria De La Torre, Tania Davidson, Angela Postage, Lillian Torbeck, Juliana Rubino, Abby Measor, & Goalkeeper - Rebekka Dill

How It Happened
The Barons travelled to St. Vincent who was sitting a few spots ahead of them in PAC standings. A win would have solidified their place in the playoff picture and gave the women some breathing room. However, the Bearcat goalkeeper had some other ideas. After the Chatham game we praised the Baron offense. The women's high powered offense is their identity. Seeing it click on all cylinders just as playoffs are coming round is perfect timing.
Don't get worried by the box score from this game. An 0-4 loss on it's cover seems troubling, but if you open it up and get passed the index you see that the Barons offense was a hurricane raining shots from everywhere all game. Three different forwards had more than 5 shots each. The Bearcat goalkeeper had to make a career-high 11 saves to hold onto the win. A tough loss that no one is happy about, but nothing to be troubled about as we enter the last week of regular season play.

Inside the Numbers
-Dill recorded 3 saves
-Winogradoff, Tania Davidson, and Juliana Rubino had 5,6,7 shots respectively
-The Barons 21 shots were the best performance this year in conference play
-All but two starters played the full 90 minutes

Who's Next?
Franciscan will return home for Senior Day on Wednesday night as they host Geneva. Franciscan will get to honor four seniors, Gabriella De La Torre, Angela Postage, Juliana Rubino, and Juliana Rubino, before a pivotal PAC matchup. The Barons are 5-8-1 all-time against the Golden Tornadoes, and they have dropped their last two meetings. The Barons last win against them came in the 2020-21 season by a score of 6-0. Juliana Rubino scored a hat-trick, as a freshman on that day, as she looks to channel some of that success on Senior Day.
