Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Aaron Spoelman

Davidson Becomes All-Time Points Leader

Franciscan 1, Westminster 3

Starting XI
Elise Winogradoff, Teaghan Elmore, Gabriella De La Torre, Isabella Corley, Maria De La Torre, Tania Davidson, Kierra Wilson, Lillian Torbeck, Juliana Rubino, Bella Rubino, & Goalkeeper - Rebekka Dill

How It Happened
This game was not the championship rematch we anticipated. Westminster has very athletic and talented defenders that in the last few meetings give the Baron forwards a very hard time. Juliana Rubino and Tania Davidson find themselves double teamed often, and Bella Rubino and Gabriella De La Torre get shadowed through the midfield. This game was no different. The Titans afforded limited opportunities to the Barons on the attack, and an early goal in the first ten seconds is a deflating way to start a tough game.
Coach got their heads right during halftime. The Barons came out with renewed vigor. Tania Davidson hit a booming shot up and over the keeper to make the score 1-3. This gave everyone some juice. The midfield began winning all the midfield 50/50 balls, but the Titans just sank in and prevented any further high-quality opportunities.

Inside the Numbers
-Davidson's goal brings her career point total to 85 becoming the all-time points leader for the Barons.
-Kierra Wilson scored her first collegiate point with an assist to Davidson's goal
-Dill recorded 7 saves
-Maria De La Torre, Davidson, and Bella Rubino led the Barons with 2 SOG each

Who's Next?
Franciscan will now travel to Washington & Jefferson on Saturday to take on the Presidents. They have been a tough matchup over the years, as Franciscan holds a 1-12-2 record all-time. Last season at home, the Barons were able to earn their first win against them by a score of 3-1. The Presidents scored the lone goal of the first half, but Head Coach Sarah Salamida would make the necessary adjustments to rally the team. Juliana Rubino scored an equalizer before Tania Davidson found the back of the net twice. Saturday's game should be a great watch of a pair of teams that are battling for their playoff spots.
