How It Happened
Franciscan baseball had their home opener on Tuesday afternoon as Penn State Beaver came to Steubenville.
It would not take long for the Barons to jump out to a lead, as
Jack Froman registered his first collegiate home run to lead off the game for Franciscan.
Brendan Burke would add one of his own just two batters later with a two run homer. That would be his 100th hit of his career, as he joins
Patrick Wallace in the exclusive 100-hit club at Franciscan. Robb would drive in another run to give the Barons a four run first inning.
Franciscan would put up another crooked number in the bottom of the third. A balk and a passed ball would score the first two runs. Then
Samuel Tyler would drive in Robb on a single. Burke and Stoehr would also have RBI hits to score six runs in the inning and give them a 10-0 lead. The Barons would then tack on 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth before a facility issue would cause the game to end and delay the start of game two.
At the Plate
- Scavnicky led the Barons with four hits, just the 11th batter in Franciscan history to have four hits in a game.
-
Brendan Burke and
Samuel Tyler each had three RBIs, as the Barons had 17 in game one.
-
Jack Froman and
Brendan Burke had the first two home runs of the season for the Barons.

Franciscan Barons would have the bats going once again in game two, as they were able to take them down by a score of 9-2.
The Lions however would strike first with a run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. The Barons would respond in the bottom half with a pair of runs. Watson would drive in Stoehr, and Robb would have a sacrifice fly to score Ferrance. Penn State would answer though with the equalizer in the third inning. The Barons would then take the lead in the bottom. They would tack on three runs on Penn State Beaver errors to take a 5-2. Falconite would then drive in a pair in the bottom of the fourth.
