How It Happened
The Franciscan Barons kicked off PAC conference play on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Westminster Titans under the lights at Trinity Health System Field. Rain would come in as warmups concluded and would linger for the entirety of this game. After being tied at half, the Barons would have a strong second half to win by two.
The Barons would get off to a fast start with four goals in the opening quarter, by four different scorers. Riley O'Brien, Carolyn Cooke, Katheryn Brehm, and Theresa Lyle would each pick up their first goals of the day. They would hold a 4-2 lead at the first break. Westminster would then make a goalie change, as Hromanik would come in to start the second quarter with Domaratz going in to play the field. She would lock down the Barons offense in the second quarter, as they would just get a pair of goals. The Titans would go on a 3-0 run over the final six minutes of the half to set the score at 6-6 at the half.
Grace Deegan and Ashley Morisey would pick up goals in the third quarter, but it would be a very defensive quarter with just three goals scored in total. The Titans would score the opening goal of the fourth to tie it up at 8-8. Kiera Wilson delivered a cluth free position goal to take the lead with just under 11 minutes to play in the game. Lyle would tack on her second of the day six minutes later, and Rose Kane would do a stellar job between the pipes. The Barons would go on to win 11-9 in a thrilling game to open PAC play.
