How It Happened

Many fishermen are told to not release Muskies back into lakes and rivers as they are known to have a negative impact on native populations of trout and other fish species. Luckily for the Ohio fisherman the Barons have already taken care of the Muskies and won't be a problem anytime soon.

The Barons reeled in the Muskingum Muskies by a score of 14-6 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Trinity Health System Field. Coach Brittany Bain opened her career as a head coach with a great home win in front of a supportive crowd.

In the first few minutes of the match, veteran Grace Deegan struck first with a score off a free position shot for the Barons first score of the season. This would be the first of four scores for the veteran midfielder during this match. Then later in the first quarter, Carolyn Cooke would strike next for the Barons as they took a 2-0 lead with 5 minutes left. The Barons defense contained the Muskies offense as the limited their shots on goal and kept the ball in Muskie territory for a majority of the first quarter.

As the second quarter got underway, the Muskies threatened to score as they crowded the Baron's defense. The veteran goalie Rose Kane picked up a big time save off a sharp shot by the Muskies. However, despite this big save the Muskies cut their deficit in half with a score with 12 minutes left in the second quarter. This did not phase the Barons as they answered back with a score of their own authored by veteran midfielder Riley O'Brien which sprung the Lady Barons to a 3-1 lead.

Halfway through the 2nd quarter, midfielder Ashley Morisey went on a long run with the ball to setup up a beautiful bounced-ball score by veteran Grace Deegan to put the Barons up by 3, but this wouldn't be the end for Deegan's hot stick. Deegan sunk another score in the very next minute to extend the Barons lead. Deegan's quick score inspired her teammate, Carolyn Cooke, to pile on another score for the Barons as they kept piling on their lead. But Deegan would get another opportunity to put in yet another score as she flung the ball to connect with the back of the net. The Barons kept their hot sticks going as they scored twice more late in the 2nd quarter. Once by Theresa Lyle and another by Joanna Hilkert. The offense kept executing on beautiful runs down the field and the kept their foot on the gas. The Muskies defense had no answer to the Barons high-flying offense
