How It Happened
The Franciscan Women's Lacrosse team remained unbeaten in PAC play with a massive win over Grove City on Wednesday evening.
Joanna Hilkert, Ashley Morisey, and Katheryn Brehm scored goals to start this one out and give the Barons a 3-0 lead. It looked as if the Barons may run away with their first win against the Wolverines in program history, but instead they would answer with three goals in a row of their own. Riley O'Brien would end their run to score Franciscan's fourth goal of the evening. Grove City would take their first lead of the day in the second quarter at 5-4. The scored would be all leveled at 7-7 entering the second half.
Grove City won the third quarter by one goal to carry that lead into the final 15 minutes. Kiera Wilson scored the equalizer, but once again the Wolverines would go on a three goal run to take a lead. With four minutes to play in the game, the Barons would be trailing by three. Hilkert would stop the bleeding with another goal, and then Ashley Morisey would pull them within one two minutes later. With under a minute to play Hilkert scored her fourth goal of the day to send us to overtime.
This would be the second overtime game between these two team over the last two seasons. The Barons would come out on top this time though, as Wilson stepped up big with a game-winning goal on a nice pass from Carolyn Cooke to set it up. The win would keep the Barons at the top of the PAC standings, while handing the Wolverines their first conference loss of the season.
