How It Happened
Franciscan baseball got back into game action on Wednesday after a week off from competition over Easter break. They hosted the top team in the conference, Washington & Jefferson, and the Barons showed that they were up for the challenge in game one.
Jacob Watson showed great command on the bump for the Barons, as he held one of the top offenses in the PAC to three unearned runs over the opening four innings. The bats would answer in the bottom of the fourth, as
Brendan Burke would take the first pitch 380 feet to left center for his second home run of the season. The Presidents would go to the bullpen and work their way out of a jam to neutralize the Barons' threat.
The Presidents would put together an offensive outbreak in the top of the sixth, as they would score eight runs on eight hits. In the home half of the eight, Watson and Burke would leadoff with a pair of hits to set runners at first and third with no outs.
Wade Stoehr would drive in Watson on a groundout to third base. The Presidents would limit the damage to just one run to take a 11-2 lead into the seventh. Neither team would score in the seventh, and then the Barons would tack on another run in the eighth off a couple hard, hit balls and Presidents' errors. That would give us our final score of 11-3, as the Presidents took game one.
