How It Happened
Coming into today's game the PAC had three unbeaten teams Franciscan, Allegheny, and W&J. Today's matchup between Franciscan and W&J could likely have been a preview or teaser to a possible PAC championship game. Franciscan the better defensive team leads the PAC in saves and saves percentage while W&J is near the top in most scoring categories within the PAC. Today we had to see could the Baron defense without Margaret McKee and prolific scorer Grace Deegan hold up to the President's offensive machine.
Today the answer was no. Missing McKee was part of the 50-21 shot differential between the Presidents and the Barons. The Presidents took a quick start and an early 7-1 lead and hung on to it for the rest of the game. The Barons made the necessary adjustments to stave off the Presidents and matching their scoring for the remaining three periods, but that early deficit was too much to overcome. If you eliminate the first period the Barons lost by a goal differential of two. Charles Dickens would call this a tale of two games. I'm excited to see a playoff rematch later this spring with a healthy Baron team and hopefully beginning the game the way they finished.
Looking past the unfortunate loss and the feelings associated with it an exciting moment for Coach Bain and her goalkeeper Rose Kane. Kane posted a staggering 26 saves setting a program record. Kane's 26 dwarfs the now second best single game performance made by none other than Coach Brittany Bain in 2018. Such an amazing accomplishment and a bonus to celebrate it with the person you surpassed your coach.

Inside the Numbers
-Rose Kane's set a new single-game program record 26 saves

Up Next
The Barons return home on Wednesday to take on Waynesburg at Trinity Health System Field for a 4 pm start. The Barons have won their last seven matchups against the Yellow Jackets, and they have won all five home matchups in this series that dates back to 2013. Last year, Franciscan won 21-5 on the road with Annie King leading the way on offense with five goals.
