Franciscan 2, Hiram 1
Starting XIÂ
Elise Winogradoff, Judah Thomason, Teaghan Elmore, Gabriella De La Torre, Isabella Corley, Tania Davidson, Angela Postage, Lilian Torbeck, Juliana Rubino, Bella Rubino, & Goalkeeper - Angelina Silva-Volner
How It HappenedÂ
Franciscan traveled to Hiram College to claim victory over the Terriers for the second year in a row. The Barons put their 3rd goalkeeper in net and trusted their freshmen could hold her own. Silva-Volner had a nice save on the first shot she's seen as a collegiate goalie. Shortly after the first shot jitters were over the Terriers snuck one passed her and took an early 1-0 lead.
That lead held for a significant amount of time. It wasn't until late in the first half when Gabriella De La Torre answered to put the game at one all. Gabriella's goal was assisted by Tania Davidson. De La Torre's excellent midfield presence and passing got her teammate back by feeding her early in the second half and assisting on Tania Davidson's game-winning goal.
Inside the Numbers Â
-Franciscan fired 21 shots at the Hiram goalkeeper
-Silva-Volner recorded 6 saves
-the Barons had 10 corner kick opportunities compared to only 3 Hiram chances
-Tania Davidson now leads the Barons in points and goals with 7 and 3 respectively after today's 3 point performance
Who's Next?Â
Franciscan will begin PAC play at home Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. when they host Waynesburg at Trinity Health System Field. The Barons are 7-6 all-time against the Yellow Jackets, including wins in their last four matchups. Last season the Barons won on the road by a score of 3-0. Waynesburg was picked to finish 8th in the PAC this season, but they have already picked up a couple of wins in non-conference play.
