Barons Slide Past AMCC Champions in Home Opener

How It Happened
A last minute change in venue didn't stop 200 Franciscan fans from crowding the stands. Many people were forced to stand on the hilltop to catch one of the greatest Women's Soccer teams in school history. Coaches, including myself, usually hate early expectations, but it's hard not to get excited about a team returning the top two goal scorers in the conference from last season, three year starter goalkeeper, arguably the best defender in the conference, and the midnight-hour return of an All-Conference 5th year midfielder.
All that excitement was justified when the Barons pulled off a 4-0 sweep on a Pitt Greensburg team that was 16-4-1 and won the AMCC championship last year.
That 5th year returner wasted no time making an impact. Bella Rubino notched one goal within the first minute to lead off the heavy-hitting offense this season. Before halftime, Tania Davidson and Abigail Walters each tallied a goal.
In the second half, the Barons played a tight game and brought in a lot of bench talent to get quality minutes early in the year. Just in case Greensburg wanted to mount a big comeback, Bella Rubino knocked a second goal up over the goalkeeper. Her second goal put the Barons up 4-0 which they firmly held on to for the remaining 20 minutes.

Inside the Numbers
-Dill had a quiet evening in goal seeing 0 shots on goal
-Tania Davidson led the game in shots with 6
-Freshmen Elise Winogradoff recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on Rubino's first goal

Who's Next?
Franciscan will now begin a stretch of three straight road games. They will get it started shortly, as they take on Oberlin this Sunday afternoon. The Barons are in search of their first win against the Yeowomen, as they are 0-2 all-time against them. Last season in Steubenville, the Barons fell to them by a score of 2-3. Bella Rubino  and Julianna Rubino scored for the Barons, but a 2-0 Oberlin first-half lead would be too much to overcome.
