Barons Five Minutes Shy of a Shutout

Franciscan 3, Thiel 1

Starting XI
Benjamin James, Michael Peppiatt, Joseph St. George, Augustine Rubino, Jonathan Schriner, Joshua Atkinson, Lucas Cross, Ryan Miller, Aidan Henninger, Emanuele Ghinelli, & Goalkeeper Jax Mautone

How It Happened
Thiel had to endure a barrage shots from the Barons to hang on and keep the game from getting out of hand.
St. George and Schriner put up multiple shots back-to-back-to-back. Thiel had one shot early in the 4th minute, then had to sit back and defend 7 Baron shots before they even had their second shot of the game in the 35th minute. Ryan Miller scored on another PK for what would be the game-winning goal just before halftime.
In the second half, Schriner added to the Barons lead putting them up 3-0. It was late in the game that the Tomcats had any amount of offense going. In the waning minutes they managed to get a couple shots, a corner kick, and eventually a goal. Their goal in the 86th minute was a last second effort that kept the Barons from another shutout.

Inside the Numbers
-Lucas Cross' lead off goal was his 7th on the year
-Ryan Miller is now 3-3 on PK's this year
-Franciscan had more SOG (9) then the Tomcats had total shots (7).
-Mautone recorded 2 saves

Who's Next?
Franciscan will return home to take on Bethany on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 at Trinity Health System Field. The Barons are 8-6-3 all-time against the Bison, including a win in the 2022 PAC Championship last season. The Barons scored a pair of goals in the opening half, including Kolbe Rice's game-winner with just a few seconds left in the half. The defense held strong in allowing just one goal for the final 45 minutes to give Franciscan their first Men's Soccer Conference Championship in school history. Both teams will be ready to go on Saturday for a must-see matchup.
