How It HappenedÂ
The Barons fell to the Purple Raiders in a close 1-3 game. The Raiders took an early lead in the 5th minute. Pressure early came mostly from the Purple Raiders. As the half drew to a close, the Barons intensity and offensive pressure picked up. In the second half, the game intensity rose with every waning minute off the clock. Fouls became more frequent and more aggressive. In the 61st minute, Ryan Miller was checked hard while taking a touch inside the box. He took his penalty kick and put it high and to the left out of the goalies reach. His goal tied the game up at 1-1. Ten minutes later, the Purple Raiders found a small shooting lane from the top of the box and dropped the ball under the cross bar to go back up by one. The Barons had an opportunity on quick transition to tie the game back up, but the Raider defenders came from behind to try and make a play on the ball, ultimately knocking the Baron forward to the ground. Two Raiders were given cards for the push and another for unsporting behavior. Although awarded the free kick, the 2 on 3 breakaway could have been the best opportunity to tie the game.Â
In the 76th minute, the Raiders quickly flipped the field and their midfielder played a long ball deep into the zone. His leading pass landed inside the box and inline with the goal. Jax Mautone took a dive sideways to save the ball from having any chance of going in. The forward the pass was intended from kept running and fell over Mautone lying on the ground. The referee deemed the foul on Mautone which led to a Penalty Kick for the Raiders. The Purple Raiders' Hancock scored on the PK completing his hat trick for the night.
